This is a recovery focused, not for profit website for girls and women, from all backgrounds, who are suffering from anorexia, bulimia, or compulsive overeating. This website is also for the parents, other family members, and friends. No money or donations are collected. The foundation of the Activate Life website is the Bible.
This website focuses on LIFE, not on the darkness. The eating disordered behavior, thoughts, and rituals are not discussed at all on this website. Neither are the psychiatric classifications and definitions of each of the eating disorders, nor the possible causes. There are hundreds of other websites which come up in search results that have that information.
Look in the mirror. Yes, right now! If you don't have a full
length mirror close by, please, find one and take a real look. As you are, wearing what you are wearing, hair as it is. What do you see?
Be real, be honest, scrutinize that image. Please. This may sound
wacky and you may think this is nuts, but this is actually something really
important.
I don't know you and I don't know what you look like. However, even from
here in cyberspace,
I do know this...
Truth
1) You were made in the
image of God.
Genesis 1:27 says, "So God created man in his own image, in the
image of God he created him; male and female he created them.."
2) Your body is among one of God's
miracles.
Psalm 139:13-15 says, "For you created my inmost
being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am
fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when
I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of
the earth,"
3) God thinks you're beautiful!
He is enthralled (captivated, attracted), by your beauty.
Psalm 45:10-11 says, "Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear: Forget your people and your father's house.
The king is enthralled by your
beauty; honor him, for he is your lord."
Forget the constant bombardment of messages
from everywhere and everyone
else (yes, EVERYONE else!!!),
GOD THINKS YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL!!! God created you and He LOVES His work!!!
God's Word is TRUTH. Please, BELIEVE what He is telling you!!!
Okay, here I go again, humor me here, please...Could we go back to that full length mirror that you found to use? Thanks!
But first, please print a copy of this page. Of course if you don't have a printer, paper and
pen would do to copy down #1-3 from the section "Truth".
Take the printed or written copy over to the full length mirror. Look at
yourself in the mirror, eye to eye with your image,
and then read, out loud, #1-3, glancing up after reading each one, to go
eye to eye with your image. The only difference in wording is that I'd
like you to replace each "you", "your", "you're" with "I", "my", "I'm".
Yes, you may feel silly or goofy. Admit that, acknowledge, and then let
that self consciousness go. It's just you and your image (with your
loving, ever watchful God paying close attention to you).
